Second Annual Reno Craft Beer Week Set for May 13-22: A celebration of community, friends and beer
(Reno, NV, March 15, 2016) — Brought together by a love of and passion for craft beer, a group of pubs, restaurants and breweries in and around northern Nevada have risen again to champion Reno Craft Beer Week from May 13-22, 2016.
Kurt Hoge, Reno Craft Beer Week co-founder, owner of Reno Type and promoter of the annual Backwash homebrew tasting for Project Great Outdoors, said the response from year one prompted a second showcase for the Reno-Sparks-Tahoe craft beer scene.
“We had close to 70 events in year one and the feedback from patrons and businesses was overwhelming,” he said. “This year the response has again been awesome and we are looking are more events and attracting more craft beer enthusiasts from around the region.”
Already set is one keystone event for Reno Craft Beer Week, the annual Backwash at Reno Aces Stadium on Friday, May 13. Backwash brings together the top regional home brewers for a taste off of their finest ales, ciders and barley wines. Backwash is the celebration of hops for Project Great Outdoors — a volunteer cast of outdoor guides, educators and community leaders — who help change the lives of troubled youth by giving them a healthier outlook on life through outdoor activities and adventures. Tickets at www.backwash.org.
Following that up on Saturday, May 14 is the Strange Brew Festival a celebration of uniquely crafted brews from two dozen local and regional breweries — most of the offerings will only be available at this festival and in many cases specially crafted for this event. Hosted by Brewer’s Cabinet and benefitting the Reno Rebuild Project, Strange Brew will be complimented with live music from local bands and a tasty BBQ too.
Other events on tap include a CollaBREWation Gala on Saturday, May 21 presented by the Nevada Craft Brewers Association at IMBIB, The Hops & Hounds Festival for the SPCA of Nevada on Friday, May 20 at the Sands Regency, a beer and cheese paring from Under the Rose Brewery and Wedge Cheese Shop on Thursday, May 19 and a cupcake/beer pairing from SixFour Growlers and Batch Cupcakery also on that day. Plus, a Sourfest on Wednesday, May 18 at Chapel Tavern. Also expect tap takeovers, Mid-Town Ale Trail Epic Brew Tour, beer dinners, rare beer releases, and a host of other events, all searchable on www.renocraftbeerweek.com.
Major sponsorship for out-of-town marketing has been provided by the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority (www.visitrenotahoe.com). Special room packages are being made available by the Peppermill Resort Spa Casino and the Sands Regency Hotel & Casino.
